In an article on the film Battlefield Earth appearing in the magazine In These Times, Scott McLemee indicated that advanced Scientologists (including John Travolta) believe that human beings continue to suffer from "the atrocities committed, a few billion years ago, by evil cosmic overlord Xenu, the dictator from planet Teegeeack."

This statement was extremely inaccurate.

Evil cosmic overlord Xenu was head of the Galactic Federation a mere 75 million (not billion) years ago.  Although the native planet of Xenu is not on record, it was clearly not "Teegeeack" -- at that time, the name of what is now called Earth.  The Galactic Federation itself is only 95 million years old.

These facts may be verified in documents by L. Ron Hubbard that are made available to Scientologists after meeting the prerequisite course of study. It is rare for this training to cost more than a few hundred thousand dollars.
